The towns of Lydenburg, Sabie, Graskop and Pilgrim’s Rest are part of Thaba Chweu Municipality. “Thaba Chweu” (White Mountain) is a Sotho word that refers to the occasional snow capped peaks of Mauchsberg, Formosa and Mount Anderson, three 2 200 m high mountain peaks between Sabie and Lydenburg.
LYDENBURG
Nestled between the picturesque Steenkampsberg mountains and the Mauchsberg on the Mpumalanga escarpment, lies a fertile valley well-known for its rich history, agricultural fresh produce and recreational activities.
SABIE
This beautiful little town is hidden at the bottom of a deep valley where one of the largest man-made forests in the world exists.
GRASKOP
The town of Graskop, perched on a spur of the Mauchsberg, dates back to 1837 when a Voortrekker, Andries Potgieter, passed through during the Great Trek in search of greener pastures to the north.
PILGRIM'S REST
This living museum is one of the most famous tourist destinations in South Africa. The entire town established in 1873 has been declared a national Monument. And the main source of income is derived from tourism.
